A Le Coq Beer Museum visit
A Le Coq Beer museum
Tartu was the birthplace of the Estonian beer industry and it has been a beer city for almost a thousand years. The Beer Museum opened on 1 July 2003 in order to preserve the history of industrial beer brewing. It is located in the malt tower built on the A. Le Coq site in 1898. It exhibits more than 2000 items. The exposition tells the story of beer brewing around the world and in Estonia, from the beer culture of ancient Egypt to the present day. The museum’s collection includes equipment used for making beer at home as well as old industrial brewing equipment. Of course, there are also bottle caps, bottles, mugs and barrels. The items in the museum introduce the beer-drinking traditions of students and include the brewery’s own money and medals from global exhibitions.

The Exhibition “The University of Tartu Main Building in Art”
The University of Tartu Main Building in Art
This year marks the centenary of Estonia’s national university. To celebrate this, the University of Tartu Art Museum hosts an exhibition that focuses on one of the symbols of the university and education in Estonia—the University of Tartu main building.
Of all the buildings in Tartu, the University’s main building is certainly one that is most frequently depicted in art. It can be seen in city views, genre paintings as well as a national symbol on other works of art. The art museum, located right in the heart of the main building, is the most appropriate site to demonstrate how this building has been depicted in various times.
The exhibition will showcase paintings, etchings and drawings dating from the early 19th century to modern times, thereby providing a unique overview of Baltic German and Estonian art with a focus on a single building. Not a single time period has been left out when making the selection, and works in various styles have been placed side by side. This way, the story of the University’s main building also reflects Estonia’s culture and history.
The works of art on display originate from the Estonian History Museum, Art Museum of Estonia, Estonian National Museum, the National Archive, Tartu Art Museum, Tartu City Museum, the University of Tartu Museum, the University of Tartu Library and private collections.

Main building of the University of Tartu
There is no question that the main building of the University of Tartu is one of the gems of the city. Upside Down House
Upside Down House
Tagurpidi Maja (upside-down house) is a dizzying adventure for both the young and the old. We literally turned the house upside down.
The upper floor is the lower floor and the lower floor is the upper floor. Sofas, cupboards, and everything else, which are located on the floor in ordinary residential houses, are located on the ceiling in Tagurpidi Maja. Even the cat!
Well, they are actually on the floor, but as the floor is the ceiling and the ceiling is the floor, it is just that you are upside down.
If this left you confused, come and see Tagurpidi Maja on your own, and you will find that everything that you just read is actually true.

Toomemägi Park
Toomemägi Park
Toomemägi was a gift from Emperor Paul I to the University of Tartu – having previously been used by townsfolk to graze cattle. For hundreds of years, it had been the central point of the local population, later becoming the site of an episcopal castle – the heart of medieval Tartu.
In the early decades of the 19th century, it was turned into a public park on the initiative of the university’s plantation committee, with alleys of trees, paved roads and bridged gulleys. Along with the library, anatomical theatre, observatory and clinic it formed the intellectual focal point of Tartu.
